Have you ever suffered from pain in your neck or shoulders? Maybe you’re aware that you’re always really tense in this area of your body. You’re hardly alone. Millions of Americans suffer from chronic pain, especially in the neck and shoulders.

When we sit at a desk, drive a car or work on our computers, our posture typically leans forward, meaning that our cervical spine (upper back and neck) is receiving an inordinate amount of pressure from gravity that pushes us further forward. If our muscles in our back and neck are weak (and for many of us, they are), we’re unable to resist and press the shoulder and neck back into alignment with the rest of the spine. This is one reason why it’s so hard to maintain proper posture (besides the fact that we just don’t think about it a lot).

Over time, we start to experience a lot of tension in the upper back, shoulders and neck. On an energetic level, this can also manifest as sore throats or illnesses that originate in the chest and lungs. The pain and cause of the tension can be treated through massage. Over the counter drugs can be taken to help you ignore the cause altogether. But unless you become consciously aware of your posture and strengthen and stretch the muscles in your back, shoulders and neck, you’ll likely experience tension in these areas for the rest of your life.

That’s why I wanted to give you some simple stretches that you can do every day to help keep the doctors away! The video is just 10 minutes long and after you get the hang of it, you’ll spend even less time incorporating these stretches into your daily routine.
