Welcome to June! Since the beginning of the year I’ve been recording Movement + Meditation classes to help usher in each new month. One of the most important things you can do when living a yogic lifestyle is to stay intentional. In order to stay intentional in your life, it’s a good idea to have frequent check-ins with your body and mind to make sure you’re staying aligned in the ways that keep you connected to who you are, what you believe, and your dreams and goals.
That’s why I like creating special practices each month that serve as a monthly ritual for you to check in with yourself and harness the energy of the month. Just like a horoscope, these monthly practices help prepare you for the natural energies of the season and month ahead and give you an opportunity to make conscious choices about how you show up in your life.
June Movement + Meditation
The month of June is a transitional month. It marks the end of Spring and the beginning of Summer. Think of this month as the doorstep of Summer. School ends for many, summer vacations begin, and the laziness of summer break is just starting to sink in (regardless of whether or not you actually get a break or take a vacation). June marks the beginning of a societal slow-down. Even so, the heat and energy of the sun also has the propensity to fuel unrest, discomfort, and strong emotions. This is why it’s so important to stay connected to yourself as we collectively move through this transition of the seasons. (I’ll be sharing a separate summer solstice practice with you later this month to honor the sun too!)
The June Movement + Meditation practice focuses on developing a sense of presence in your body and in your movement. We keep things simple and straightforward, and work on balancing postures to help keep you attuned to the transition of the seasons, while keeping you rooted in your own core beliefs and sense of Self.
The mantra for this month is Shrim (pronounced Shreem), which cultivates a feminine energy that can improve health, happiness, bring you a calm mind, and help you cultivate love. This mantra contains elements of both Kapha (the Ayurvedic dosha of Spring) and Pitta (the Ayurvedic dosha of Summer). This mantra can help you strengthen your inner glow and light, which translates to an outward luster that is perfect for the summer season.
