Self-Care

“Good things add up too.” ~Kelly Newsome

Today’s conversation is all about self-care. I interviewed Kelly Newsome a former lawyer and founder of Ritual Care Co. and Higher Ground Yoga a long time ago (Ritual Care Company hadn’t even come into being!) and I remember the conversation being so inspiring. Listening to it again in the editing process made me even more excited to share Kelly’s great ideas with you now.

Based in Washington D.C., Kelly “teaches wellness strategies to busy professional women so that their bodies feel amazing and their brains work better and they have an excellent response to the daily stresses they encounter in their lives.”

Working from her degrees in psychology and law, her continuing education in yoga, positive psychology, doula training, and most importantly, her personal experiences with self-care, Kelly has built a beautiful business doing work that is so needed in our fast-paced world. Just listening to her talk about self-care is relaxation in and of itself.

In this podcast episode, you’ll learn:

  • What it means to live with a yogic state of mind
  • How to be truly successful as a woman in the professional world
  • What it means to organize your life around a wellness framework
  • The three E’s for relaxation
  • New relaxation techniques and ideas
  • The biggest issue with work/life balance
  • The Doable Daily Deposit Idea (this is my all-time favorite metaphor for self-care EVER!)

Further questions to ask yourself:

  • Do you want to live the life you want to live or live the life of professional success as outlined by societal expectations and norms? There isn’t a right or wrong answer, but it’s important you’re clear on what the answer is for you.
  • Can you reframe something you already do during the day as self-care?
  • How do you feel today?
  • What’s one small thing you can do today to feel bliss?
  • What Doable Daily Deposits can you make today? Right now?
